3. Additional Support for Learning: new Tribunals, new law, new litigants
Date:
Thursday 01 February 2018
Time:
05:45pm - 07:15pm
Speaker:
Iain Nisbet (Cairn Legal)
Seminar Details:

This seminar will look at the recent (mid-Jan 2018) transfer of the additional support needs jurisdiction from the Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland to the First Tier Tribunal for Scotland (Health & Education Chamber). It will also look at the statutory changes coming into force at the same time – including amendments to the definition of “young person” and the extension of some rights within the ASL legislation to children aged 12-15, the legal hoops they have to jump through to access those rights and the statutory support service founded to assist them.

Iain is an independent education law consultant and specialist, with particular expertise and interest in additional support needs law and the Equality Act 2010 as it applies to education. He is the principal author of “A-Z of Scots Education Law - A guide for parents” (Consumer Focus Scotland). He is the Convener of the School Closure Review Panels, a Consultant Solicitor with Cairn Legal and a former non-executive director with Education Scotland. He is ranked Band 1 in the Education (Individuals) category in Chambers UK 2018.
