Date:

Time:
05:45pm - 07:15pm
Speaker:
Fraser Kelly (Chief Executive, Social Enterprise Scotland)
Seminar Details:

A social enterprise is a business which applies commercial acumen to solve social or environmental problems – often wrongly described as charities, in fact only a small number of social businesses are registered as charities. This growing sector encompasses housing associations, cooperatives, community interest companies, companies limited by guarantee and many others and with over 5,000 businesses now trading for social or environmental value in Scotland is worth over £5 billion. Fraser Kelly, the chief executive of Social Enterprise Scotland will provide an introduction and general overview of the sector, including many of the different business structures which trade under this model. This seminar will help aid professional advisors understanding of the sector and better equip you to advise clients seeking advice about socially responsible business models.

Fraser joined Social Enterprise Scotland in July 2011. With a career that benefits from private, public and third sector experience and includes over 20 years working in economic regeneration, Fraser describes this role with a mixture of excitement and privilege, working on behalf of an outstanding collection of member organisations, with a highly committed and experienced Board. From 2004-2011 Fraser was Chief Executive of Castlemilk Economic Development Agency and Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency Ltd and prior to that worked as Head of Economic Development at Inverclyde Council. Fraser is a Board member of BHA and Resilient Scotland.
