Change in CPD Regulations

The Law Society of Scotland has issued new CPD Regulations “CPD Requirments and Guidance for Scottish Solicitors” [link below].
The Royal Faculty is to hold a seminar to highlight the changes which these Regulations make (along with the new Accounts Rules) on Thursday, 12 January 2012.

One of the main requirements is for solicitors to plan CPD activities in advance to address their learning needs. The Royal Faculty will continue to provide topical seminars throughout the year on a range of topical legal subjects. These will be advertised beforehand as they are arranged but not necessarily at the start of the year. In addition to the normal Thursday evening seminars the Royal Faculty will hold a number of ½ day conferences during the year. Dates for these are as follows –
Family Law ½-day Conference 28 March 2012
Employment Law ½-day Conference 11 April 2012
Conveyancing ½-day Conference 20 June 2012
Criminal Law ½-day Conference 7 November 2012

There has also been a relaxation of the Regulations relating to group study and distance learning and an increase in the range of activities which qualify as CPD. Selected seminars will, therefore, be made available for delegates to log in remotely as live webcasts and also download recorded webinars.
One of the requirements of the new Regulations is for solicitors to retain proof of completed CPD training which they have attended. The Royal Faculty will, therefore, issue certificates of attendance to all attendees at its CPD seminars.
The Royal Faculty will continue to provide good quality seminars at a reasonable price with a very good standard of speaker. The price for CPD seminars will be maintained at the current (very competitive) levels – members will continue to benefit from a 50% reduction in the cost of seminars and the offer of an extra free seminar for every 3 seminars booked up in any given block of seminars will continue.
Please do recommend seminars and or speakers that you feel would be worthwhile to be included in the Royal Faculty’s education programme.
