TANQ Society

The Trainee and Newly Qualified Society, or TANQ, was set up with the threefold aim of - raising the profile of the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow among new entrants to the legal profession; providing a forum for education seminars particularly suited to the needs of trainee solicitors; and providing an opportunity for trainees to meet with their peers to share experiences in a social setting.
Attending TANQ events is not only a great way to meet new people, network and hear about what's happening in law firms in and around Glasgow, but it is also a good opportunity to increase your knowledge and understanding of different areas of law. If you are starting your legal career, TANQ is an invaluable way to learn from other people's experiences and to make contacts that may help you in the future - and it's free!
We aim to put on 5 or 6 education seminars per year as well as several social events. The seminars qualify for one hours CPD for newly qualified solicitors or 2nd year trainees who hold a practicing certificate.
All tainees and newly qualified solicitors are welcome to attend events regardless of whether their firms are members of the Royal Faculty. Law students and those completing their Diploma in Legal Practice are also most welcome.

The social will take the form of an informal evening where three panel members will share the benefit of their experiences in the legal profession in a question and answer session. Have your questions ready for the panel - this is an interactive event and is an opportunity to find out all you ever wanted to know about the highs and lows of practicing law...! The panel discussion will be followed by refreshments and a chance to network and socialise.

Speaker: Iain Mitchell Q.C. (Faculty of Advocates) Iain Mitchell is strong in IT and Intellectual Property, though his practice ranges over most areas of private law. His work is informed by extensive practical experience in business, the charitable and voluntary sectors, politics, and his keen interest in the arts and heritage. His sensitivity to commercial realities has frequently been commented upon and this, together with his substantial experience, enables him to develop innovative solutions, giving holistic advice which places the needs of clients in a wider commercial setting.
