The Hill Collection

The Hill Collection was included in a bequest to the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow from William Henry Hill in 1912 and has remained at the Faculty ever since. The Collection consists chiefly of material relating to Glasgow history and is a resource of some considerable importance locally.

The Collection includes the following material -
The collection includes munimenta relating to two old Glasgow families (the Hills and the Hutchesons), Newbattle Abbey and the MacFarlanes of Arrochar. These include manuscripts dating back to the 14th Century and Royal correspondence. In total the number of vellum manuscripts exceeds 275, some with their original seals retained.

The majority of the published works date from the late 19th Century and relate to Glasgow and include almanacs, library catalogues, bound volumes of journals and newspapers, bound volumes of pamphlets and miscellanies, maps and books with a particular focus on the history of Glasgow.
