9. Vulnerable Persons in the Justice System

Seminar Details:

This seminar will explore the topic of vulnerable persons including looking at - lessons from other jurisdictions; Judicial expectations; and "The Advocate's Gateway" Toolkit - which provides general good practice guidance when preparing for trial in cases involving a witness or a defendant with communication needs.

The speaker Frances McMenamin Q.C. joined the Bar in 1985 and took silk in 1998. She is now the most senior woman at the Scottish Bar. From the outset, her work has been almost exclusively in criminal law. From 1991-97 she was a Temporary Sheriff but had to resign the Commission when she was appointed as an Advocate Depute. She was appointed a member of the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission in 2010.
