11. The Definitive Legal Practice Toolkit ~ Half-day Conference

Seminar Details:

This half day conference will provide essential tools and guidance for both those wishing to develop their own management and business development skills and those more senior practitioners wishing to refine theirs.

Between them the speakers have over 100 years of experience in running and advising legal practices.

Sessions will cover building and developing personal and business legal brands, dealing with clients, managing a legal business in the 21st century, developing and retaining staff and the place for IT in a modern firm.

• A SWAT analysis for your career: legal business models old and new 

• Managing yourself and your people: Time management, delegation and personal resilience.

• Building a better you. How to develop yourself and your business while keeping clients happy (including – projecting yourself, marketing yourself and the firm, satisfied clients and avoiding complaints).


Conference Speakers -

Gregor Angus (The Cashroom)
Gregor qualified as a solicitor in 2007. He then spent 6 years working as a litigation lawyer for Drummond Miller, Digby Brown and Anderson Strathern, before joining The Cashroom as Business Development Manager in 2013. The Cashroom provide outsourced cashiering, payroll and management accounting services to over 130 law firms across the country.

Alasdair Thomson (AAT Legal)
Alasdair has over 20 years’ experience as a Solicitor and partner in private practice, since 2005 he has been involved in over 100 online business generation projects. He has experience of law firm practice management; creating legal brands; rebranding existing legal firms; and implementing effective in-house procedures in legal firms to ensure business opportunities are effectively handled and converted. He is also a member of the Law Society's Technology Law and Practice Committee.

Stephen Vallance (Harper Macleod LLP)
Stephen has over 30 years' experience of legal practice. A partner previously in several law firms, he successfully sold his own practice in 2008. Stephen currently works within the HM Connect team at Harper Macleod where he is involved in supporting many of Scotland's High Street legal firms. Stephen has also taught on the Diploma at both Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities as well as PEAT2 seminars. He has also been involved in several other projects including on line automation of legal processes, internet and social media marketing and a new business start-up.

Douglas Mill (DM Consulting)
Douglas spent 18 years in private practice. He was CEO of the Law Society of Scotland for 12 years and has been consulting now for 9 years - acting for c120 firms of solicitors.
He is also the Former President of the International Institute of Law Association CEO's and Director of Professional Legal Practice at Glasgow Law School and has co-authored 4 management texts.


Booking fee: members £100; non-members £160; trainee/paralegal from member firm £30; trainee/paralegal from non-member firm £60
