9. Gracing the court: your first appearance and beyond
Thursday 31 May 2018
05:45pm - 07:15pm
Neil Mackenzie (Director of Training and Education, Faculty of Advocates)
Seminar Details:

Even the most experienced court lawyer had a first appearance. I’ll tell you about mine: a District Court Breach of the Peace Trial that I was sure to lose. And did, despite days of anxiety, fraught preparation and pages and pages of notes.
I cannot guarantee you will win your first case, but I can offer survival tips that ought to help control your nerves, prepare effectively and present your case, and the cases that follow, well.

Neil Mackenzie called to the Bar in 1999.  He specialises in complex, high value medical negligence and industrial disease cases for pursuers and defenders.  Most notably, he was Junior Counsel for Lanarkshire Health Board in Montgomery v Lanarkshire Health Board 2015 SC (UKSC) 63.  In December 2017, he was appointed Director of Training and Education at the Faculty of Advocates.

Booking fee: members £50; non-members £75; trainee/paralegal from member firm £15; trainee/paralegal from non-member firm £25.
