Seminar Details:

New price and service transparency requirements for the legal sector in England and Wales were implemented in 2018. Under the rules, all regulated law firms are required to proactively publish information on prices they charge. Gregor Angus will take a look at the experience south of the border, the implications for firms, and whether there are any lessons we can learn as the Law Society of Scotland goes through its own consultation on this topic - ‘Pricing Transparency – promoting consumer choice’.

Janet Blackstock will go on to present the position in Scotland, addressing –
• Importance of the Terms of Business letter in promoting transparency of fees / fair calculation
• General approach by Royal Faculty Auditor to method of Feeing
• Recent cases and their implications
• Assessment options in disputed fees; free breakdowns; itemised accounts; joint remits; taxation before the Auditor of Court

 

Speakers - 

Gregor Angus (Senior Business Development Manager, The Cashroom)
Gregor qualified as a solicitor in 2007, having undertaken his traineeship at Drummond Miller in Edinburgh and Glasgow. He then spent 6 years working as a litigation lawyer for Drummond Miller, Digby Brown and Anderson Strathern, before joining The Cashroom as Business Development Manager in August 2013.

Janet Blackstock (Royal Faculty Auditor)
Janet assumed the position of Royal Faculty Auditor in July 2017. Previously Janet worked for Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service for 27 years working in various sheriff courts across the West of Scotland and representing Scottish Courts and Tribunals on many corporate projects. Janet has experience in all aspects of legal work and over a 13-year period Janet was The Sheriff Clerk and Auditor of Court at Greenock, Rothesay and Dunoon Courts and is a member of the Society of Sheriff Court Auditors (SOCA).

 

Booking fee: members £50; non-members £80; trainee/paralegal from member firm £15; trainee/paralegal from non-member firm £25
