Chris Boyland (Strategy, Policy and Corporate Assurance Team Leader at Social Security Scotland) will speak about the development of Scotland’s new, devolved social security system. This will cover: a brief history of the devolution of responsibility for parts of the existing system, from the UK to Scotland; the development of the Social Security (Scotland) Act 2018 and what the Act means for the people of Scotland; the establishment of Social Security Scotland, a new Scottish delivery body; and the launch of the first, devolved Scottish social security benefits.

Chris works for Social Security Scotland, the new, Scottish agency responsible for delivering Scotland's new social security system. Chris is responsible for: developing strategy and operational policy; helping to ensure that the Agency's delivers on its requirements under the Social Security Scotland Act 2018; and developing and drafting the Agency's strategic corporate plans and annual reports. Social Security Scotland’s interim Corporate Plan can be found on its corporate website here. Previously, Chris has held other roles in the Scottish Government and its agencies, including lead responsibility for the development and delivery of the Social Security (Scotland) Act 2018.
