Immigration and Brexit Conference

Topics to be covered within the Conference –

· An examination of the current position on immigration in relation to EU and other nationals.

· Brexit issues for general practitioners including criminality threshold and employment issues.

· The business of Brexit: What will our Corporate Clients need to consider in the event of a hard or a soft Brexit.

· The new world: what might a post Brexit Scotland look like in relation to immigration issues.


Speakers -

Janey Armstrong (Drummond Miller LLP) - Janey is a Partner and is the head of our Immigration team in Glasgow. She advises on all areas of immigration, asylum, European free movement and nationality law. She has specialised in this area of the law since qualification. She has a particular interest in applications for family members under Appendix FM of the Immigration Rules, whether that be on the basis of family life as a parent of a child in the UK, or family life with a partner.

Barry Price (Latta & Co) - Barry is a Senior Associate with Latta & Co. practising in all areas of immigration, asylum and nationality law. He has a particular interest in asylum applications and appeals, and has experience in dealing with disputed nationality and disputed age cases, along with deportation appeals. He also has an interest in judicial review applications, challenging the decisions of public bodies (including the Scottish Ministers, the Parole Board for Scotland, the Scottish Prison Service and the Secretary of State for the Home Department) at the Court of Session where appropriate. Barry is a member of the Scottish Immigration Law Practitioners Association.

Iain Halliday (McGill & Co) - Iain Halliday joined McGill & Co in 2014. Iain is a member of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association and Vice Convenor of the Law Society of Scotland's Immigration and Asylum Committee. He has been involved in drafting submissions to Parliamentary Committees at both Westminster and Holyrood and has taken a particular interest in the preservation of the rights of EU citizens post-Brexit.

Darren Stevenson (McGill & Co) - Darren Stevenson is a partner at McGill & Co. Prior to joining the firm, Darren spent 6 years working at the Home Office with what was then the UK Border Agency. Darren was a contributor to the recently published 2nd Reissue of the Stair Memorial Encyclopaedia Immigration Law Chapter. He is a member of the Immigration Law Practitioners Association.
