6. Tax - what a solicitor needs to know
Thursday 13 February 2020
05:30pm - 07:00pm
Catherine McManus (Partner, Wylie & Bissett)
Seminar Details:

This seminar will explore the basic tax provisions of the most common interactions between solicitors and tax advisers, including -
   1. What to look out for when starting a business/company
   2. What to look out for when exiting business/company
   3. Marriage and divorce
   4. Succession

These topics are useful because often it is the tax adviser who is first point of call because the client is interested in tax implications and reliefs available to them. However, once they know what the tax issues are that there are usually wider legal implications of progression which can lead to a broad scope of extended work for solicitors. Base knowledge and knowing when to obtain expert advice will be beneficial.

Catherine McManus is a chartered tax adviser with over 20 years’ experience in advising in taxation both corporate and personal taxation. She trained at a top 4 firm and then moved to spend 18 years with a top 10 firm before joining Wylie & Bisset in 2015 heading up the tax team. Her areas of expertise include structural and transactional work, tax efficient restructuring, personal tax planning and IHT mitigation and is supported by a tax team of 8.

Booking fee: members £50; non-members £80; trainee/paralegal from member firm £15; trainee/paralegal from non-member firm £25
