9. Coping with complaints
Date:
Thursday 05 March 2020
Time:
05:30pm - 07:00pm
Speaker:
Susan Williams (Oversight Team, Scottish Legal Complaints Commission)
Seminar Details:

The SLCC has a statutory function to monitor trends in complaints against all legal practitioners in Scotland. Our data gathering over the last 11 years has helped us to identify the most common causes of complaint, and to suggest best practice for preventing complaints, as far as possible, and dealing with them. We know that, on average, every practitioner can expect to be named in at least two formal complaints during their career. We also recognise the impact of complaints on the firm and the individual. This short seminar will give some practical pointers on how to deal effectively with complaints. We hope to include interactive case studies, and would welcome your input in advance on particular areas that you may like us to discuss.

Susan Williams qualified as a legal practitioner overseas. Her work experience has included in-house work, involvement in undergraduate and continuing legal education, parliamentary research and monitoring, and over 15 years with health and legal regulatory bodies.
