About The Event:
This seminar will briefly review the recommendations of the Scott Review as they relate to AWI, and the developments since then. It will then consider some of the practical challenges faced by AWI practitioners and ways these can be addressed while we await the reform process (e.g. dealing with deprivations of liberty), in the context of the present regime’s compliance with Article 5 ECHR.
About The Speaker, Dr Dianne Millen:
Dr Dianne Millen is Head of Family Law at Watermans in Edinburgh and has specialised in family and incapacity law since 2011. Dianne is an AWI Safeguarder in a number of Sheriff courts and also serves as a panel financial guardian for City of Edinburgh Council. She is currently a solicitor member of the Mental Health and Disability Policy Subcommittee of the Law Society of Scotland and a volunteer Trustee of Garvald Edinburgh, a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities. Dianne regularly presents and writes on incapacity law for both practitioner and lay audiences.
