About the Seminar:
Lord Carloway will explore what constitutes a convincing legal or factual submission by court practitioners and what is likely to irritate or even annoy the bench. He will also examine how judgments ought to be framed in a manner which will convince the informed reader, and maybe even both parties, of their merits.
About the Speaker: The Right Hon Lord Carloway (Colin Sutherland)
Lord Carloway was appointed as Lord President of the Court of Session and Lord Justice General of Scotland in December 2015 where he served, dutifully until his retirement in 2025. He has been a Senator of the College of Justice since February 2000. He was appointed to the Second Division of the Inner House in August 2008, before becoming Lord Justice Clerk in August 2012. His report into criminal law and practice was published in November 2011.
He is a graduate of Edinburgh University (LLB Hons)…
