In her talk, Rahila will speak about the complex and often misunderstood issue of forced marriage, highlighting the cultural nuances that can influence both how abuse is experienced and how support is accessed. She will also clarify the important differences between arranged and forced marriages and shed light on the unique challenges faced by Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women when seeking safety and support. Drawing on her years of frontline experience, Rahila brings both professional insight and cultural understanding on the topic of forced marriages.


About the Speaker, Rahila Waheed (Amina MWRC):

Rahila is a Senior Casework and Helpline Development Officer at Amina MWRC, where she has spent over seven years supporting women at risk of or experiencing domestic abuse, particularly those with no recourse to public funds or insecure immigration status.
