About the event

About the Seminar:

Andrew will discuss what routes there are to a career at the bar as well as discussing his own journey to there. He will also provide his top tips on instructing counsel.

About the speaker, Andrew Bergin:

Andrew called to the Bar in 2021 after 8 years in both private and in-house practice.

Prior to calling to the Bar, Andrew spent 7 years at one of Scotland’s largest and most well-known personal injury firms. While there, he developed a wide range of experience in personal injury practice in the Court of Session and in Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland. Andrew has considerable experience of cases concerning Employer’s Liability, Occupier’s Liability, Public Liability and Road Traffic accidents.

Thereafter, Andrew practiced in-house with an international medical and dental defence union where he was responsible for defending high value and complex medical negligence cases concerning doctors, dentists and consultants, both in Scotland and in the Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland jurisdictions. During this time, Andrew developed particular experience of, and interest in, cases concerning delays in the diagnosis of cancer.

During devilling, Andrew also gained experience of crime, Health and Safety prosecutions, commercial cases and professional negligence cases.

Andrew is the first LLB graduate to call to the Bar from Glasgow Caledonian University where he is currently a part time tutor.
