Tax: Being alert to potential tax consequences of estate planning – for general practitioners - Kathleen Martin (Harper Macleod)
Covering various tax matters that general practitioners may need to consider for individuals when carrying out estate planning and the taxation of a discretionary trust once established by the client.
About the Speakers:
Kathleen acts for clients at all stages of their lives on a wide range of private client matters, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts, tax and succession planning, and the administration of estates.
She advises on tax efficient succession planning, including lifetime gifting, Deeds of Variation for estate beneficiaries and the creation, management and termination of trust arrangements. She also advises on the administration of complex and high-value estates.
Kathleen acts for a broad spectrum of clients with varying family and financial circumstances tailoring her advice to best address each individual scenario.
She also assists clients with international roots, including advising on the matters regarding their UK assets and administering the Scottish estate of those who were domiciled abroad.
Adrian Ward - Adrian Ward is a recognised national and international expert in adult incapacity law. His books include the current standard Scottish texts on the subject. He has been convener of the Mental Health and Disability Committee of the Law Society of Scotland since 1989. His awards include an MBE for services to the mentally handicapped in Scotland; a lifetime achievement award at the 2014 Scottish Legal Awards; and being made an honorary member of the Law Society of Scotland in 2017.
John Kerrigan - John is a Consultant within the Blackadders Private Client Team and has over 40 years of legal practice experience, 34 of them as a Partner. Currently, John mainly deals with contested Estates and giving Opinions in succession, adults with incapacity, trusts, care and funding for the elderly. He has granted in excess of 900 Opinions.
