The Consultation for this Bill is open until 9th August 2023.
This Bill, if enacted as it reads, will have far reaching consequences upon the regulation of solicitors for years to come. This seminar will be delivered by zoom and will provide information and analysis that will assist you to make your own response to the consultation. We will have ourselves to blame if we fail to take this opportunity to speak up on behalf of the profession and, more to the point, on behalf of the public which the profession serves.
We present an analysis of aspects of the Bill including the regulatory history leading to this Bill and the functions of the Scottish Government, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the Law Society of Scotland (LSS) and the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC) and the position of the solicitors’ profession itself. The seminar will consider the relevant questions :-
• Who will govern the regulation of solicitors?
• Who will be authorised to provide legal services?
• What powers are to be transferred to the Government?
• What is happening with the complaints system?
And, as far as may be practicable, any questions you care to include in your application email.
It will be helpful if attendees could have the text of the Bill in front of you during the webinar. Please see the links below -
