Trainee Continuing Professional Development (TCPD) is a requirement set by the Law Society of Scotland for trainee solicitors seeking professional qualification. The Royal Faculty of Procurators offers a comprehensive TCPD programme that fully complies with the Law Society’s standards.
Where possible, the programme is integrated into the traineeship itself rather than added on as extra training. Delivered by a team of experienced solicitors, it provides a strong foundation across the main areas of legal practice.
Spanning six months (from Jan.-June 2026), the course develops key skills such as analysis, argumentation, communication, and pleading. It also creates valuable opportunities for trainees from different regions and practice areas to meet and network. Now in its 14th year, the programme is designed to minimise disruption to trainees’ primary work commitments by offering a flexible online timetable and supervised independent study tasks that can be completed outside regular business hours.
The course emphasizes hands-on learning through practical case studies, enabling trainees to gain experience across a range of topics. Sessions are led by experienced practitioners to ensure the training is both relevant and up to date.
To maintain high-quality teaching and interaction, enrolment is limited to 25 participants. Early booking is therefore strongly recommended to secure a place.

The Royal Faculty of Procurators is a licenced provider of Trainee CPD and, as required by the Law Society of Scotland, the course will be underpinned by a focus on -
• Professional Ethics and Standards; • Professionalism; • Professional communication; • Business, financial, commercial and practice awareness; • Substantive and relevant legal knowledge
