The Women’s Network of the Sheriffs and Summary Sheriffs’ Association is delighted to invite you to an online event on 4 February 2025 at 5pm featuring Nicola Williams, renowned author and Crown Court judge.
About Nicola Williams
Nicola is the author of three legal thrillers about a Black, female barrister. Without Prejudice was selected for the Black Britain: Writing Back series by Bernardine Evaristo and Until Proven Innocent was the winner of the Diverse Book Awards Readers’ Choice Award 2024. Killer Instinct is her latest novel.
Nicola’s own work as a barrister includes death penalty appeals from the Commonwealth and commentary on the OJ Simpson trial for the BBC.
In the field of public law, she has held several senior roles, including Commissioner with the Police Complaints Authority and Board Member of its predecessor the Independent Police Complaints Commission, dealing with allegations of police misconduct up to and including deaths in custody. She was the first ever Service Complaints Ombudsman for the UK Armed Forces.
She is involved in mentoring children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
She has been a Crown Court Recorder (part-time Crown Court judge) since
2010.
About the Event
Nicola will be sharing some of her experiences in the judiciary, publishing and the legal profession, and her perspective on volunteering and mentoring, before taking questions from the audience.
It is anticipated that the event will last between 60-90 minutes. The event will be open to all, regardless of gender.
