This talk will cover the different kinds of legislation that shape Scots law, and the Parliamentary processes that produce them. It will discuss how proposals to change the law are formed and developed, with suggestions for how lawyers can participate in and influence that development.
 
Colin Brown began his legal career in local government in southern Scotland and after several years there joined the Government Legal Service in Edinburgh to pursue an interest in constitutional law. He has recently retired, having worked mainly in social security, housing, local taxation and elections. His experience of legislation includes Housing Acts, the Social Security (S) Act 2018 which began the devolution of social security responsibilities, and the Acts for the 2014 independence referendum.
