Lady Stacey explains the rationale behind case management and what the bench expects.

Valerie Stacey graduated from Edinburgh University in 1976. She qualified as a solicitor in 1978. After working as a solicitor in Glasgow and Motherwell she called at the bar in 1987. Her practice was a mixture of civil and criminal work. She was an Advocate Depute from 1993 until 1996 and standing junior counsel to the Home Office in Scotland from 1996 to 1999, when she took silk. In 2009 she became a judge of the High Court and Court of Session. She has sat in the Upper Tribunal in social security and immigration cases. From 2013 to 2016 she was a judge of the Employment Appeal Tribunal sitting in London and Edinburgh.
