December 2017 saw the introduction of the new “Private Residential Tenancy” in the private rented sector in Scotland.
At the same time, jurisdiction for disputes arising from private sector tenancies transferred from the sheriff court to the First Tier Tribunal-Housing and Property Chamber
This session will look at -
     • the new Private Residential tenancy
     • the rules relating to its creation and termination,
     • the grounds for eviction and
     • the powers and procedures of the tribunal.
If time permits, we may also consider briefly the new rules relating to registration of letting agents.

This session will be of benefit to anyone who provides advice to private landlords (or any solicitors who are themselves private landlords !!)


Jim Bauld is a partner with T C Young, solicitors, Glasgow. He has specialised in Scottish tenancy law since 1994 and has over 30 year’s litigation experience in Sheriff Court work throughout Scotland. He provides advice on issues such as debt recovery, tenant evictions, succession to tenancies, repairs, leases, accessing properties, and antisocial behaviour. He has been appointed as a legal member of the First Tier Tribunal (Housing and Property Chamber). He regularly leads training sessions for organisations such as Scottish Federation of Housing Associations, CIH Scotland and Legal Services Agency in addition to in-house training for many public sector landlords on a wide range of topics in the housing law field.
