About the event

The drafting or preparation of Separation Agreements represents the beginning of the end of lengthy and detailed negotiations.  It is therefore of importance that Solicitors exercise caution and meticulously consider the finer points of what will represent a legally binding contract between the parties.

Pre and Post Nuptial Agreements are also becoming increasingly common in providing protection to the owner of a family business and the family business itself.  Such agreements are also common for high net worth individuals who wish some form of protection if the relationship breaks down.

In all of the above types of agreements, there are numerous pitfalls and areas of risk to be considered at the point of drafting.  The seminar will explore these in depth and provide tips for best practice.

The seminar will explore the following issues:-

• The objectives of the agreement;

• The benefits of such agreement;

• The contingencies that the agreement should cover; and

• The risks of the agreement (including pension sharing provisions), what should be included and what should not be included;

In addition to the content covered, there will also be styles of the agreements for reference.

The seminar will be of interest to Solicitors who specialise in family law but will equally appeal to those who include family law as part of their general practice.

Tom heads the family law department at WJM and has practiced exclusively in family law for over 20 years. He is accredited as a Specialist Family Law Expert and a Family Law Mediator in both Children and Financial matters by the LSS.
