Applications for Confirmation at Glasgow Sheriff Court

Members providing private client services will be aware of the significant delays in Confirmations being granted at Glasgow Sheriff Court. In recent times, waiting times have extended to 12-14 weeks.

Following representations made on behalf of the RFPG to Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar KC, we are pleased to be able to report news of a substantial reduction in waiting times. As a result of a recent concentration of efforts by court staff, the Sheriff Principal has advised the Dean that waiting times for the grant of Confirmations are now down to around 6 weeks. In addition, the Sheriff Principal hopes that a further reduction in waiting times will follow.

One of the issues identified as contributing to extended waiting times is the large number of applications that are having to be rejected by the Court. The Sheriff Principal has asked the Dean whether members would support the introduction of a checklist for applications for Confirmation. The proposed checklist would operate in a similar way to that which was introduced for AWI applications. Any members who wish to offer views on the subject should do so by e-mailing the RFPG Library (library@rfpg.org) by Thursday 7 August, marking their e-mail for the attention of the Dean.
