The final of the Royal Faculty's mooting competition for 1st and 2nd year law students from Glasgow academic institutions was held in the Faculty Hall on 21 May 2025, presided over by Sheriff Principal Anwar.
It was contested by the teams from the Universities of Glasgow (Auguste Povilionyte and Jonathan Assur) and Strathclyde (Sara Akram and Alec Hudson) who had each won through their semi-finals.
The Sheriff Principal said that the standard of pleading was very high and it was exciting to see the calibre of the students who will be appearing in court in the future. She was impressed by their display of clear arguments and the art of persuasion and it was a very finely balanced competition and hard to decide between the two teams but ultimately the competition was won by the team from the University of Glasgow.
The Dean, Stephen Vallance offered his heartfelt thanks to the Sheriff Principal for her appearance at and conduct of the Mooting Competition final, as well as Alan Ritchie for acting as clerk.
Congratulations and thanks to all the competitors and in particular the winning team - Auguste Povilionyte and Jonathan Assur - from GU.
