The Commercial Court in Glasgow: What works, what doesn’t work, what might be done better?

An Open Forum Meeting: 5 September 2024 at 5.30pm

The RFPG is pleased to host an Open Forum Meeting on Thursday 5 September 2024 at 5.30pm with two of the three commercial Sheriffs at Glasgow (Sheriff S. Reid & Sheriff B. Cameron) to discuss the workings of the commercial court in Glasgow.

What works? What doesn’t work? What might be done better?

All civil practitioners are warmly invited to contribute. Topics for consideration might include:

• Telephone/video conference hearings

• Hybrid proofs – experiences so far?

• Should there be target timescales from start to finish?

• Is a Practice Note desirable? If so, what should it cover?

• Assigning proofs – how can it be improved?

• Front-loading of proof preparation

• Evidence-in-chief by written witness statement.

All thoughts, questions and ideas from practitioners are welcomed.

The Sheriffs want to collate all feedback (anonymous or otherwise) for the Sheriff Principal with a view to ensuring that the business community is well served by Glasgow’s commercial court.

Send your thoughts, questions etc., to: library@rfpg.org no later than 48 hours prior to the Meeting. All emails will be anonymised by the RFPG.
